CFS Framing Manufacturing Volume for 2023 Rises 9.7% from 2022 Levels, SFIA Says

Cold-formed steel (CFS) manufacturing volume for 2023 returned to volume levels typical for the steel framing industry prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) data.

Topics

The manufacturing volume of cold-formed steel (CFS) products for the year 2023 showed strength, returning to the levels typical for the industry prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, note two reports available from the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) — the SFIA 2023 Data and SFIA 2023 Data With Analysis reports. Both reports on the nonresidential market volume of steel framing are available for purchase from the SFIA Store.

Steel Framing Volume up 9.7%

According to the SFIA 2023 reports:

  • Total volume of CFS members for 2023 rose 9.7% from 2022 volume levels
  • Nonstructural CFS had a strong showing in 2023 — up 14.7% year-over-year compared to 2022

“Demand for cold-formed steel framing products continues to be resilient as companies remain positive about the current construction market,” said Larry Williams, SFIA executive director, about the data contained in the report.

Two Reports Available

1. SFIA 2023 Data

The SFIA 2023 Data report is the only market research report available that provides quarterly and annual tonnage data for the movement of steel framing products in the United States by type and by region and that tracks steel framing product inventories by type and by region. The data is derived from quarterly surveys of leading CFS manufacturers that represent more than 85% of the CFS products manufactured in the U.S.

The data and market intelligence is collected by the Thompson Research Group (TRG), which surveys CFS manufacturers, aggregates the data and reports on the volume of steel used to produce steel studs, track, joists and related CFS materials.

2. SFIA 2023 Data With Analysis

The companion report, SFIA 2023 Data With Analysis, adds market intelligence captured by TRG surveys of companies that buy and use CFS products and presents this analysis in context with other construction market indices.
