ClarkDietrich Says Sustainability Requires Balance

ClarkDietrich, a CFS manufacturer and SFIA member, is exploring ways to embed sustainability into every stage of a product’s lifecycle, from sourcing and manufacturing to distribution and end-of-life solutions, while also helping to keep the supply chain healthy and resilient.

Sustainability is not a one-size-fits-all approach, nor is it a one-and-done quick fix,” says a recent ClarkDietrich blog post entitled, “The Great Balancing Act: How Diverse Supply Chains Can Support Sustainability.” “It requires continuous innovation, a relentless focus on resource efficiency and a fundamental shift in mindset.”

In this video, Adam Shoemaker, ClarkDietrich corporate sustainability manager, discusses the ClarkDietrich’s continued commitment to sustainability.

A significant step ClarkDietrich has taken is supplying low embodied carbon CFS products with a third-party certified environmental product declaration. These products, sourced from electric arc furnace mills, reduce embodied carbon by 30%.

While EAF mills offer significant benefits, basic oxygen furnace mills are still essential due to the limited availability of recycled steel to meet market demand.

“Maintaining diverse supplier sources by incorporating both EAF and BOF mills into our supply chain provides numerous benefits for Earth, its inhabitants and long-term financial viability for all stakeholders,” ClarkDietrich says.
