Veev, a panelized building technology innovator and an SFIA member, announced the launch of a new steel-framed, single-family home with cutting-edge capabilities. The Veev Single-Family Home product combines efficient and sustainable building practices with high-quality and adaptable design. Cold-formed steel(CFS) framing is part of a holistic homebuilding solution, providing homes to consumers without a premium upcharge.

Veev to Build 500 Homes Per Year

The steel-framed, single-family home was unveiled at Veev Assembly 2023, a product launch held at the company’s new headquarters in Hayward, California. The new facility serves as the company’s new Digital Fab, an engineering center and production facility, is projected to build up to 500 homes per year.

“Our home is the single most important investment we’ll make in our lifetime. It sounds simple, but this mindset is hardly reflected in today’s construction,” said Veev CEO and co-founder Amit Haller. “Affecting this status quo requires radical innovation and a customer-first focus. We’ve engineered our building method to do just that.”

The launch of the Single-Family Home product is a welcome sign to help alleviate the current housing shortage. According to a report from Realtor.com, the U.S. housing market continues to struggle with a sizable shortage of new homes, the result of more than a decade of under-building relative to population growth. The rate of single-family housing starts would need to triple to keep up with demand and close the existing 6.5 million home gap in 3 to 4 years, the Realtor report says.

“Following our success in the broader market, we look forward to bringing our unique approach to single-family homes at a time of unprecedented demand for better housing,” said Haller.

Steel Framing Speeds Up Construction

In 2019, Veev made a decision to eliminate lumber from the homes it built, replacing wood with steel framing and slabs made of a mix of acrylic and minerals that bind together, says USA TODAY. By using this process, Veev can build homes faster and at lower cost.

In addition, framing its homes with steel results in near-zero waste and a low carbon footprint, says Veev.com.

“Veev is not the only company using a factory to make buildings, but with a uniquely integrated approach that pulls design, material supply chain, manufacturing and construction in-house, it’s carving a niche of pure efficiency,” says Fast Company.

Veev System Solves 5 Key Homebuilding Problems

Veev’s Single-Family Home system solves for five key issues endemic to the homebuilding industry:

  • Efficiency: Each single-family home can be built in 30 days, complete with full panelized build, installation and a digital home backbone. Veev’s approach is up to 8 times more efficient when compared to traditional construction
  • Quality: The homes offer cutting-edge materials and features like high-performance surfaces, European windows and LED lighting
  • Sustainability: Veev’s system is designed for well-being and the environment; the building process produces 50% less CO2e compared to traditional construction
  • Adaptability: Veev can accommodate any home design and aesthetic
  • Cost Competitive: All features are included with no premium in cost; homes are priced at parity with the market

The First True Home Brand

Most people do not see their home as a product. Unlike purchases — such as phones or cars, which are created in quality-controlled environments using advanced technology — houses continue to be built the same way they have been for centuries, says the Veev website.

The process is extremely fragmented, with multiple contractors, subcontractors and brands involved in every build.

“We have the advantage of taking a comprehensive approach to homebuilding, from thinking through the smallest design details to incorporating innovative technologies that make up a home that’s made for the 21st century,” said Veev’s CRO and co-founder Dafna Akiva. “It all ties back to our view of the home as the ultimate consumer product.”

Veev is creating the world’s first true home brand.
