L&W Supply Expands Northwest Footprint

L&W Supply, a nationwide distributor of building materials and Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) member, has opened its newest branch in Medford, Oregon. This marks the company’s fifth location in Oregon, expanding its ability to serve contractors across Southern Oregon and Northern California.

CEMCO Adds ArcelorMittal’s Magnelis® Coating

CEMCO, one of the largest manufacturers of steel framing systems in the United States and a member of the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA), announced that it is incorporating Magnelis® coating from fellow SFIA member ArcelorMittal into its non-load bearing product lines. CEMCO supplies steel framing for both small and large construction projects nationwide.

CEMCO is incorporating Magnelis® coating from ArcelorMittal into its non-load bearing cold-formed steel (CFS) product lines.

Magnelis is produced through a continuous hot-dip galvanizing process in a bath of zinc, 3.5% aluminum, and 3% magnesium. This combination provides enhanced corrosion resistance and a self-healing effect that protects cut edges. Outdoor tests show performance up to three times greater than traditional batch hot-dip galvanized steel. Magnelis is also recognized under ASTM A1003 as an approved coating designation for cold-formed steel (CFS) framing members, and is used by customers around the world for steel-framed construction.

“The Magnelis-coated product is an excellent option for our non-load bearing products, and it performs well on our high-speed roll-forming equipment,” said Steve Farkas, director of business development at CEMCO.

ClarkDietrich Obtains Certification for Connectors

The Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) member ClarkDietrich has received a third-party evaluation report for its line of drift and deflection connectors. 

The report, IAPMO ER-729, certifies that the connectors meet specific performance standards and code requirements. Notably, it permits the use of ClarkDietrich drift and deflection connectors on state-funded projects in California, which requires third-party testing for such builds.

ClarkDietrich drift and deflection connectors, certified under IAPMO ER-729, is approved for use on California state-funded projects requiring third-party testing.

“The evaluation report ensures structural integrity, safety and compliance by providing unbiased assessments of connector performance and confirming adherence to industry standards,” said Janine Dallies, category manager for ClarkDietrich. 

Engineered to enhance structural resilience, the connectors help buildings to withstand seismic activity and other high-impact events. Their performance makes them an ideal solution for facilities such as Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs buildings, courthouses, airports and train stations. They also deliver the strength and flexibility needed for high-rise buildings, schools and hospitals in earthquake-prone regions.

The evaluation report confirms that the drift and deflection connectors comply with the 2024, 2021 and 2018 International Building Code® and International Residential Code®, the 2023 Florida Building Codes—Building and Residential and the 2022 California Building Code and California Residential Code.
