AWCI Welcomes Don Pilz as Director of Technical Services

The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry welcomes Don Pilz as its new director of technical services, bringing over 37 years of industry expertise.

The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry is pleased to announce that Don Pilz has joined the association as the new director of technical services.

Pilz is a seasoned professional with more than 37 years of experience in the building construction industry. His passion for the field and diverse background — spanning roles as a drywall/lather, building envelope consultant, product development consultant, and for the last 17 years as the R&D manager at CEMCO — will drive innovative education, resources, information and solutions to AWCI members and the wall and ceiling industry.

In his current role with CEMCO, Pilz developed and collaborated with Trim-Tex on several preformed firestop products, managed all third-party testing for fire-rated and sound-rated wall assemblies, and participated in ASTM task groups focused on stucco and fire-rated solutions.

Pilz is a valued member of the International Firestop Council and the UL STP UL-1479 Task Group. His work has led to the development and patenting of many innovative products, including Water Management Stucco Accessories, M-Slide Expansion Joint, 093X Fire Rated Control Joint, Fire Gasket, Sound Gasket, HOTROD Type-X, Fire Bead, Super Seal-X, Fire Rip and RBR Strap among others all addressing critical challenges in the industry.

“I am excited to join AWCI and connect with its members and chapters. My commitment to promoting the industry and addressing technical, building code and safety issues further solidifies my dedication to advancing our field,” says Pilz.

Pilz’s AWCI responsibilities will include advocacy and education on codes, standards and technical issues, safety and health initiatives and ceilings and specialty products specific to the wall and ceiling industry. He will actively support AWCI’s Construction Technology Council and the Safety and Health Committee. “We are thrilled to have Don join the AWCI team and bring his many years of experience, expertise and knowledge to our members and the wall and ceiling industry,” says Michael F.
