November 21, 2025 — The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) has published Tech Note G500-25, “Tech Note G500-25: Field Guide – Inspection Checklist for Structural Cold-Formed Steel Framing (Updated).”

This Tech Note provides building inspectors, contractors, architects and engineers a partial list of items to review during construction. It provides basic but necessary checks to assure structural cold-formed steel (CFS) framing is constructed per an approved design. Tech Note G500-25 replaces G500-23.

CFSEI Tech Note G500-25 covers:

  • Verification of CFS member identification, size, thickness and coating
  • Inspection of member condition, web holes, field cuts and notches
  • Review of screw, power-actuated, welded and bolted connections
  • Foundation bearing conditions, anchorage and separation from dissimilar materials
  • Inspection items for floors, roofs, walls, shear walls and strap-braced walls

This Tech Note provides a field guide and inspection checklist for structural CFS framing. It presents a partial list of items to be reviewed during construction to help verify that framing is installed in accordance with the approved design.

The document is intended to serve only as an aid to qualified inspectors and does not replace project-specific construction documents or professional judgment.

Referenced Standards

The publication references applicable industry standards used in structural CFS framing, including:

  • AISI framing standards
  • AWS welding requirements
  • ASTM material specifications

Readers can use this document as a concise inspection aid when reviewing structural CFS framing during construction.

Industry experts write and update CFSEI Technical Notes to guide professionals in cold-formed steel design and construction.
