Among the 10 recipients, two firms specializing in cold‑formed steel (CFS) framing will each receive $2.5 million:
- Inter Build Limited of Bolton will adopt automated equipment for prefabricated CFS walls, floors and roofs
- Arnprior’s MetaLigna Modular Inc. will enhance its CFS fabrication capabilities through advanced manufacturing technology
By backing Canadian‑led solutions, the funding will help manufacturers of CFS assemblies streamline their production processes, respond more rapidly to housing demand and deliver affordable housing options.

Steel Framing Key to F1 Racetrack Chalets
Escapade is a hospitality development near the Silverstone racetrack in Northamptonshire, England, home to the British Grand Prix. The project consists of steel-framed chalets with trackside terraces offering unobstructed views of the Formula 1 races and the surrounding woodlands.
Steel is a critical component of the chalet designs, both structurally and aesthetically supporting their overhang systems. Additionally, the composite steel floor slabs are reinforced with 8” by 8” steel props. These reinforcements are essential for ensuring the load-bearing capacity and high-tech finish required by the design.
The steel framing meets the engineering required of the project, while harmonizing with the timber cladding and expansive glass features. The result is a cohesive and reliable structure.
CFS Accelerates Holistic Childcare Centre
Sunkids Childcare Centre is a next‑generation early learning facility located in Queensland, Australia. The centre reflects a holistic approach to childhood education, emphasizing the role of parents as “first teachers,” educators as “second teachers” and the built environment as the “third teacher.” It’s a purpose‑built community hub where children can safely learn, play, grow and explore.
Central to the project is an engineered cold-formed steel (CFS) framing system that accelerated the construction schedule and reduced costs. Prefabricated CFS components allowed for precise, rapid assembly on site, shortening construction timelines and minimizing on‑site labor. The steel solution offers high strength‑to‑weight performance. It ensures structural reliability while keeping the overall frame lightweight. Beyond its structural advantages, CFS framing supports expansive, open‑plan interiors and welcoming communal spaces for the students.
Steel framing’s versatility enabled:
- Large clear spans,
- Flexible layouts, reinforcing the centre’s gathering‑focused design,
- A durable, adaptable facility that embodies Sunkids’ educational philosophy.
