The Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) has announced the launch of the SFIA Publications repository, a comprehensive online library designed to streamline access to cold-formed steel (CFS) design and construction information.
This new repository, SFIA Publications, consolidates essential CFS resources — from technical bulletins and best practices to code compliance documents — into an easily searchable platform, providing architects, engineers, contractors and other building professionals with quick access to the critical information needed for designing and constructing CFS projects.
SFIA Publications contains an extensive collection of documents, including:
- SFIA Publications: Documents published by SFIA including construction details, market data reports and technical bulletins
- Case Studies: Real-world examples that demonstrate innovative uses and practical applications of CFS in a variety of projects
- Research Reports: Compliance documents, evaluation reports and FAQs related to building code approval and regulatory requirements
- Specification Guides: Specifications and commentary covering structural and non-structural applications
- AISI Codes and Standards: AISI design standards and specifications for CFS structural members, including seismic and thermal transmittance standards
- LEED and Sustainability: Environmental impact, resilience and life cycle assessments that support the use of CFS in sustainable construction
- Construction Details: CAD drawings and downloadable details for wall assemblies, including brick veneer and curtain wall systems
- Technical Bulletins: Updates and expert commentary on topics such as material properties, evaluation service procedures and procurement practices
- Fire Safety: resources that address the cost, risks and performance aspects of CFS in fire scenarios
- AISI Test Standards (S900 Series): Detailed testing procedures and protocols for evaluating the structural behavior and performance of CFS framing components
“This repository represents a major step forward in resource accessibility for the cold-formed steel community,” says SFIA program manager Meredith Perez, who helped develop the library together with Rose Kuria, manager of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI). “These resources not only consolidate essential documents for the industry, but also they strengthen our collective approach towards building better, safer and more sustainable structures.”
In addition to Perez and Kuria’s development work, Emma Goodgion, SFIA membership & operations specialist, provided input on organization and formatting of the SFIA Publications web page, created and uploaded graphics for drawings and details and set up pages that were problematic formatting within the constraints of the web hosting service. Holly Mellinger, SFIA programs and operations manager, helped set up the initial categories for the SFIA Publications repository and provided review throughout the process.
