Course Description
Adoption of Energy codes and standards has expanded dramatically from even a few years ago, adding new and unique challenges for almost every type of building in all climate zones.
This program will help designers gain a better understanding of today’s requirements, their impact on cold-formed steel (CFS) framing, and the various compliance methods to get the best performance without adding excessive costs. CFS has benefited from the development of new technologies and tools that enable compliance, as demonstrated in this presentation.

- To relate the primary reasons energy codes and standards are important to the CFS industry
- To gain a basic understanding of compliance options in the International Energy Conservation Code and ASHRAE Standard 90.1
- To demonstrate key prescriptive requirements that impact CFS through specific examples
- To understand the application of building energy simulation software for performance compliance

Robert Grupe, SFIA
Robert Grupe is Program General Manager for the Steel Framing Industry Association, managing the SFIA’s Architectural Services Team located in the Eastern, Western, and Central Regions.
Grupe has spent over 38 years with United States Gypsum Company in various technical and management positions, including product and system design and technical consultation to the AEC community.
