SFIA Announces Speakers for Its March 14 Annual Meeting General Session in Las Vegas

Larry Williams, executive director of the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) has announced that Nicole Meyer and Jonathan Provo of Sustainable Solutions Corporation will speak on the subject of sustainability at the SFIA Annual Meeting General Session on March 14, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The General Session keynote entitled, “Green Building or Green Washing? An Unvarnished Appraisal of Wood and Steel Framing,” will take place March 14, at 4:15 p.m. Pacific Time, in Palace Rooms 1 & 2, Indigo Tower, Casino Level, Horseshoe Las Vegas. Horseshoe Map

“This is a must-see for SFIA members,” says Williams. “New regulations and incentives have made sustainability open to a lot of interpretation. But, Nicole and Jonathan know exactly what green building is about.”

Meyer and Provo will discuss the definitions of sustainability and “green,” which can vary based on the requirements of the reporting agency. “Green Building or Green Washing?” attendees will learn about the key attributes, data and assumptions employed in making product stewardship claims.

This provocative session is built on a landscape assessment study (a holistic environmental appraisal) of the alternative approaches to boundary and impact setting by wood and steel construction products. The results provide a simple roadmap through the tangle of rating systems, unwrap the mysteries of green building jargon and identify the types of greenwashing prevalent in the construction industry. Meyer and Provo will provide attendees with a balanced, third-party evaluation of the sustainability credentials of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing, dimensional lumber and cross-laminated timber.

Nicole Meyer, Sustainable Solutions

Nicole Meyer, LEED Green Associate, LCACP, is a Senior Account Manager at Sustainable Solutions Corporation. She is a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Certified Professional with experience in international standards for life cycle assessment, environmental product declarations, product category rules, and product stewardship. Since joining the team, Nicole has worked with organizations across a diverse range of industry sectors supporting environmental stewardship and corporate sustainability programs.

Nicole graduated from the University of Chapel Hill in North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and received a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Engineering, with a focus in Materials Science, from Villanova University.

Jonathan Provo, Sustainable Solutions

Jonathan Provo is a Senior Project Manager at Sustainable Solutions Corporation. He has experience working in product and corporate sustainability conducting Life Cycle Assessments for the metal, automotive, consumer goods and chemical industries.

Jonathan received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a concentration in Chemistry from Olin College of Engineering.
