According to the latest quarterly data report released by the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA), total manufacturing volume of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing products for 2020 rebounded strongly in the second half of 2020.
Despite the historic disruption to the economy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, CFS framing product output ended the year at 1,057,600 tons — 8% lower year over year, and far less than the 16% drop registered in Q2.
- The volume of structural CFS framing products manufactured in 2020 remained relatively consistent throughout the year, ending with 126,051 tons in Q4.
- While the volume of nonstructural CFS framing products dropped by 21% in Q2, the volume recovered in Q4 to 121,651 tons, or only 5% lower than the same period in 2019.
The data in the SFIA Market Data Report is collected through an CFS framing industry-wide survey. The complete report, which includes the results of a survey of market sentiment, is available for purchase from SFIA.
