Course Description
Participants will gain an understanding of the types of panel systems available for cold-formed steel (CFS) framing, their advantages over stick framing, and other systems that interact with the wall system.
The panelization process from factory to installation will be shown and examples illustrated.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify what types of buildings are appropriate for panelization, and within those buildings, which applications are appropriate for cold-formed steel framed panels
- Understand the benefits of panelization over stick frame construction
- Articulate the process of constructing wall panels in the plant and transporting them to the jobsite
- Discuss options for floor systems that are compatible with wall panels
- Identify high-quality CFS products in terms of materials and their compliance with applicable codes and standards

Pat Ford, P.E. is Technical Director of the Steel Framing Industry Association, overseeing the SFIA’s code compliance certification programs and all technical resources, including the SFIA code reports and Technical Product Catalog.
Pat also manages the cold-formed steel (CFS) design team at raSmith, now one of the largest CFS engineering groups in the United States, providing services to architects, builders, and general contractors throughout the United States.
