SFIA member United States Steel Corporation is featured in a recent episode of Military Makeover with Montel, a popular show on Lifetime TV that features inspiring stories of military veterans transitioning from service back into civilian life.
In “Operation Career: Forging New Careers in Steel,” four veterans discuss their careers at U.S. Steel. The show’s host and military advocate, Montel Williams, a veteran of both the Marine Corps and the Navy, leads the Military Makeover team’s mission to transform the homes and lives of military families across the country.
A Path for Veterans
In “Forging New Careers in Steel,” four veterans offer insights into the role that veterans play in strengthening the steel industry’s workforce.
Jason Taliaferro, director of sales and president of U.S. Steel’s SERVE Employee Resource Group, discussed the company’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety and teamwork, drawing from his 23 years of military service.
Other veterans featured in the episode include Tyna Hall, a multi-equipment operator at U.S. Steel’s Minnesota Ore Operations, and Terry Carter, senior manager of safety and security at U.S. Steel Gary Works. Hall and Carter stressed the company’s strong support for veterans. Carter noted how military safety protocols align with U.S. Steel’s culture of safety.
Ray Tarnow, safety manager at Big River Steel, also shared how his military training has been instrumental in his career development.
