The Steel Framing Industry Association’s SFIA 2024 Industry Project Awards competition, the SFIA Awards, is now open. The SFIA Awards recognize excellence in the use of SFIA-certified cold-formed steel (CFS) products. This is the second year of the steel framing industry awards program.
Deadline: June 28 at 8 pm ET
The deadline for the SFIA 2024 Awards entries is 8:00 pm ET on Friday, June 28, 2024. The competition is open to SFIA members only. SFIA members in any SFIA membership category can participate, but they must be a member to submit a project to the SFIA Awards competition.
SFIA members can download the Contest Rules in PDF format from Dropbox and submit their projects using the official SFIA Awards Submissions Form. Architects, engineers, manufacturers, distributors, contractors and others can enter projects in the competition, so long as the projects feature SFIA-certified CFS products and the entrants themselves are SFIA members.

“Like last year, the SFIA 2024 Industry Project Awards is the best of the best of projects featuring SFIA-certified steel and steel connectors,” says Larry Williams, SFIA executive director.
SFIA-labeled steel has passed numerous third-party verified physical tests for mechanical properties, coatings and manufactured dimensions. This makes winners of the SFIA Awards top tier in steel framing products manufacturing and construction.
6 Categories of Awards
The SFIA Industry Project Awards will emphasize the innovative use of CFS framing. The 2024 competition will include entrants in the following 6 categories:
- Efficient use of cold-formed steel framing
- Conversion from another material to cold-formed steel framing
- Architectural design detail
- Sustainability
- Size of the job (quantity of cold-formed steel products used) in Low Rise (1-3 stories), Mid Rise (4-7 stories) and Super Mid Rise (8+
stories)
- Judging panel’s choice
One winner and one honorable mention will be awarded for each category, unless suitable submissions are not received. Winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony to be held by SFIA this Fall.

The 2023 SFIA Awards recognized 7 SFIA member winners: ADTEK Engineers (winning twice), Negwer Materials, CEMCO, raSmithand ClarkDietrich (winning twice).

SFIA Awards judges give higher marks to entries with high-quality photography, such as this 2023 award winning project submitted by Negwer Materials.
Judging Criteria
A panel of industry representatives will judge entries based on the following criteria:
- Presentation, which includes the quality of the narrative, photos and photo captions
- Design Quality, which includes the efficient and sustainable use of CFS products
- Installation Complexity, focusing on conflict resolution, timeframe challenges, etc.
- Manufacturing Complexity, which can include custom orders, panelization, special material sourcing, and more
- Overall Job Quality, which includes alignments, finishes and other attention to detail
- Conversion from Alternative Framing Material (if applicable), which reflects how metal framing can lower a structure’s weight, add stories, save on builders’ risk insurance, etc.
The judges will also give extra consideration to (1) projects that involve 2 or more SFIA member companies besides the submitting SFIA member and (2) projects that used the SFIA Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
The SFIA 2024 Industry Project Awards will focus on CFS manufacturing and construction. The SFIA awards program is a complement to the Design Excellence and Creative Detail Awards governed by the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI).
