The Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry, Falls Church, Va., recently announced the members of its 2021–2022 Executive Committee and board of directors, whose terms begin July 1.

Shawn Burnum, vice president of operations at Performance Contracting, Inc. in Lenexa, Kan., is 2021–2022 AWCI president. Burnum’s primary focus during his presidency will be identifying and grooming emerging industry leaders, which starts by engaging younger generations in AWCI activities and events.

Emerging Leaders Program

Burnum says the growing crop of new executives leading today’s contracting companies might need a hand as they take the reins in an ever-complex business, so they would benefit from AWCI offerings like the new Emerging Leaders Program that will debut later this year. Networking, mentoring opportunities, education, site visits and leadership opportunities within AWCI will all be a part of this renewed effort to engage emerging leaders in the industry and the association.

“What I’m thinking is having leader-to-leader accountability and collaboration here. We need the next generation of leaders to get excited to participate and come be a part of our association’s events,” Burnum says.

“Shawn has a long and distinguished career as a leader in the construction industry and has already brought forth ideas and initiatives to advance AWCI and our industry,” says AWCI CEO Michael Stark. “The AWCI board of directors and staff stand ready to support Shawn as he leads this organization over the coming year.”

Burnum will lead the following AWCI Executive Committee members:

  • President: Shawn Burnum, Performance Contracting, Inc., Lenexa, Kan.
  • Vice President: Travis Vap, South Valley Drywall, Inc., Littleton, Colo.
  • Treasurer: Travis Winsor, The Raymond Group, Orange, Calif.
  • Secretary: Johnny Barnes, Baker Drywall BCS, Ltd., College Station, Texas
  • Immediate Past President: Chip McAlpin, F.L. Crane & Sons, Inc., Florence, Miss.
  • Continuing Study Committee Chairperson: Mike Taylor, Liddle Brothers Contractors, Inc., Nashville, Tenn.

The AWCI Executive Committee leads AWCI’s board of directors and works with committees, members, partners and staff to represent and advance the wall and ceiling industry. The entire 2021–2022 board of directors can be found at www.awci.org/awci/about/board.

SFIA and AWCI Are Partners

The Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) works closely with AWCI on joint programs and projects designed to help contractors and suppliers grow their cold-formed steel framing businesses. In fact, a prerequisite to becoming an SFIA contractor or supplier member is also to be an AWCI member.
