Webinar Details

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Association (CFSEI) hotline is a trusted resource for obtaining guidance on the wide range of cold-formed steel (CFS) design applications. A frequent hotline topic pertains to either joist or stud brace design. This presentation will explore why braces are needed, S240 design requirements and a few of the common brace design questions. Both joist and stud brace design required by AISI S240-20, North American Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Structural Framing will be discussed. New anchorage provisions to be adopted for SFIA AISI S240-26 will also be presented.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain an understanding for the behavior of cold-formed steel (CFS) members and why bracing is necessary
  • Gain an understanding of the AISI S240 brace design requirements
  • Become aware of the new AISI S915 test requirements for brace strength and stiffness
  • Become aware of the new AISI S240 provisions for anchorage of brace forces

Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute

The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) comprises hundreds of structural engineers and other design professionals. Together, they are finding a better way to produce safe and efficient cold-formed steel (CFS) designs for commercial and residential structures. CFSEI members develop industry standards and design methods. CFSEI issues technical bulletins, organizes seminars and provides online training so that engineers and design professionals can improve their knowledge and skills.
