CFS and the Future of North American Standards
Session: Integrating Cold-Formed Steel and the Future of North American Standards

At left, Don Allen, executive director of the Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) and Sarah Majlesi, senior engineer, cold-formed steel with CISC-ICCA.
With steel framing and other North American standards no longer maintained by the American Iron and Steel Institute, questions remain about how these standards and the materials they address will be integrated into Canadian building codes.
Don Allen, executive director of the Steel Framing Industry Association (CFS), and Sarah Majlesi, senior engineer with CISC-ICCA, will examine the background behind the change, its implications for Canadian manufacturers and users of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing, and opportunities to participate in the continued development of North American CFS standards.
Allen and Majlesi will discuss two case studies to illustrate practical applications. One case study will show how a fabricator successfully incorporated CFS products into its systems. The other will examine the steps and standards involved in designing an all-CFS-framed structure.
