From the very beginning, USG has pursued a simple yet powerful mission: to create building products that improve the world around us. Our story began in 1902 when a group of gypsum companies united to form the United States Gypsum Company, laying the foundation for a legacy of innovation and industry leadership.
In 1916, we introduced Sheetrock® brand panels, a groundbreaking invention that transformed the way people built interior walls. One of our insightful sales representatives named this iconic product, which has streamlined construction processes and opened up new possibilities for design and functionality.
Over the decades, USG has consistently pushed the boundaries of building science, developing a wide range of innovative products that have shaped the construction industry. From latex paint and mineral fiber ceiling tiles to shaft wall elevator systems and Durock® cement panels, our inventions have enhanced building efficiency, performance, and aesthetics. In addition, USG products have played a vital role in constructing some of the world’s most recognizable landmarks, including the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the Lotte Tower in Seoul, and the Freedom Tower in New York.

Our business is comprised of two divisions that help our customers design the spaces we live, work and play.
- Gypsum Division: Our Gypsum Division is home to the iconic products like Sheetrock® brand drywall and joint treatment that made us synonymous with high-quality building materials and solutions, as well as innovative products and systems that simplify work, speed up the construction process and reduce the number of people required on job sites.
- Ceilings Division: Our Ceilings Division includes products from traditional grid suspension ceiling systems, the industry’s first integrated acoustical drywall system and specialty products that inspire thoughtful designs.
