Course Description
Newer energy codes are pushing for more energy efficient wall assemblies. But, are they durable? Will they stay dry? Used appropriately with other control layers, the thermal control layers (insulation) of a cold-formed steel (CFS) wall assembly can actually contribute to improved durability and energy efficiency.
Learning Objectives
This session will explore five key building science topics together with new code requirements and design tools to help navigate and coordinate building code requirements for moisture control and energy code requirements for insulation.
Design examples will illustrate how to apply these actionable building science concepts in the process of optimizing code compliance and performance.
Presenter
Jay Crandell has over 30 years of experience in construction, engineering, and innovative building technology research for private and public sector clients. He has conducted benchmark studies of major natural disasters and conducted research to address significant structural, energy, and building science challenges.
His work has helped to propel many innovative technologies into the International Codes and consensus standards.
About the SFIA Steel Framing Learning Portal
The Steel Framing Industry Association (SFIA) Steel Framing Learning Portal is an education platform offering cold-formed steel (CFS) framing educational resources 24/7/365. The portal offers live webinars and on-demand CFS framing courses. Many of the educational resources are registered with AIA CES and participants can earn HSW LU for the successful completion of select webinars and courses.
